A few months ago I had lots of trouble with my computer. Crashs and reboots and a couple of re-installs of XP. You name it, I got it.
Then I somehow got the fault down to a random event.
But still, that was annoying. So last Tuesday I ordered Norton Systemworks.
And...
From the next day on my computer has worked perfectly. I have gone from Soltaire to 3D graphics to Guild Wars to e-mail and I have had the 'puter on all day without any problems.
Did XP know I was looking for an outside expert?

Chip, Just wait.

In a few more days the computer will decide it does not like Norton either.
It will decide to misbehave. When you go looking you wont find the problem and it will go away agin for a while. Twisted Evil

Computers definitely have a mind of their own. You just have to treat them right, and look after them like they were your pet, (dog) maybe. Razz

For my sins I worked on a helpdesk for a software application. Got a call froma customer whose PC had frozen, and I had to get him to reboot. Then he wanted to know exactly what had gone wrong - well without knowing what exactly he had been running, what order he started applicationss etc, it's next to impossible to answer. But he kept pressing - so I told him he forgot to sacrifice a chicken that morning

Over 20 years in IT, and I still think there's more magic than technology in the dammed things

Yes, it has came to pass.
I installed Norton a few days ago and all the system checks regestered OK, except for the broadband network. I now have to unplug the USB wire and replug it and the modem starts up. other than that there are no problems at all.
My 'puter is working so fine, I had it rendering some 3D files for over 30 hours. Go figure.

But....

How do we know that it was Chip sending the message? Maybe the computer is impersonating him? Cool

No it had to be Chip.

Rememeber computers have spellcheckers and by choice would not be up at 2 in the morning.

Even computers like to get a rest occasionally Cool
