James White Award Announces JudgesThe organisers of the James White Award have announced that this year's judges will be Orson Scott Card, Michael Carroll, Christopher Fowler, Graham Joyce and David Pringle. "We are delighted to once again have such a prestigious line-up to adjudicate the Award," said Award founder James Bacon. "We are also delighted that this year's award ceremony will take place at Novacon in Birmingham, a convention that has a strong connection to James."

The James White Award, now in its third year, was founded to honour Irish science fiction author James White who died in 1999. The competition is open to non-professional writers who may submit up to three short stories of between 2000 and 4000 words each. The closing date for this year's award is August 20 2002. For full rules and writer's guidelines, potential participants are invited to visit the Award's Website at http://www.jameswhiteaward.com or to write to The James White Award, 211 Blackhorse Avenue, Dublin 7, Ireland.

The winning story will be chosen by the judging panel and will be announced at the award ceremony on Sunday November 3 in the Quality Hotel, Walsall, West Midlands, UK, which is also the venue for the 2002 Novacon. James White was the Guest of Honour at Novacon 1 in 1970 and again at Novacon 15 in 1985.

Meanwhile, the James White Website, http://www.sectorgeneral.com has recently been updated with a synopsis and printing history of over 50 of James' short stories, an additional 30 book covers and magazines and essays about the sector general timeline and alien classification system by the late Gary Louie.
