Penguin Launch Irish Division

Wed 14th Aug 2002

Penguin Launch Irish DivisionAccording to Business and Finance, international publisher Penguin, which publishes science fiction titles under imprints such as "ROC" and "Ace Science Fiction", is to launch an Irish publishing division. This will be managed by Michael McLoughlin who used to head Poolbeg.

They plan to publish their first titles here in Autumn 2003, and it remains to be seen if they will take on science fiction. However, they do have their sights set on the international market, and aim to give Irish writers greater exposure abroad.

This would seem to be a positive development for Irish writers, who have traditionally had to choose between an Irish publisher with limited access to international markets, or a foreign publisher with little or no interest in Irish writers.
