Today we are looking at Drupal Canvas, an exciting new way to build pages and theme sites in Drupal.

Some things Cancas can do:

  • Component based visual site building tool
  • Uses conventional Drupal blocks, Single Directory Components, and code components that can be built in the front end
  • Create and build multiple pages before publication
  • Multi-step undo

The majority of it was a demo of building a site with Canvas, using many different features of the system. It was a great way to show how it really works in practice, rather than just the theory.

At the time of the talk, RC1 of Canvas had just been released, but just a few days ago it became stable with a 1.0 release. It’s going to be a core feature of Drupal CMS 2.0, which will be launching early in 2026.
